On the new years night leading up to 2020 our universe warped and swapped places with a nearly identical parallel universe. No one noticed the difference right away but as time went on things started to get weird. The year started off with a mysterious virus starting to spread around Asia officially reported on January 9th. Then next thing we know it suddenly appeared in Seattle, Washington January 18th and the US started to panic causing mass paranoia and many cases of major miscommunications.
Before we knew it this virus turned into a worldwide pandemic and shut down the entire world for months on end. On January 26th the extremely violent and sudden death of famous professional basketball player Kobe Bryant, his daughter, and 7 other passengers caused by a helicopter crash in California shook the nation and added to the already diminished hopes for many people during the new looming threats of COVID.
August 28th 2020 Chadwick Boseman best known for his portrayal of T'Challa in Black Panther, Chadwick Boseman died after a private battle with colon cancer. His passing at 43 stunned the world and left a significant impact on the entertainment industry, particularly within the context of representation and the success of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In 2021 there were major riots on the US capitol buildings and in an attempt to overturn the results of the 2020 US Presidential Election, a mob of supporters of then-President Donald Trump stormed the US Capitol in Washington, D.C. The attack disrupted the certification of President Joe Biden's electoral victory and left multiple people dead, with hundreds injured.
In February of 2022 Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine was one of the most devastating geopolitical events of the 21st century. The war has caused tens of thousands of deaths, massive displacement (over 8 million refugees), and significant destruction across Ukraine. The conflict has led to severe economic disruptions, including soaring energy prices and food shortages, particularly in Europe and parts of Africa. The war has also led to global realignments and raised tensions between Russia, NATO, and other global powers. The COVID-19 pandemic triggered global recessions, disruptions to supply chains, and significant job losses worldwide. Climate change has led to an increase in the frequency and severity of extreme weather events.
In 2020 and 2021, wildfires ravaged parts of Australia, the US, and the Mediterranean. September 8th 2022 Queen Elizabeth II, the longest-reigning monarch in British history, died at 96 after more than 70 years on the throne. Her death marked the end of an era for the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth, and her passing was felt globally. Her son, Charles, succeeded her as King Charles III. In 2022, devastating floods hit Pakistan, submerging a third of the country and killing over 1,700 people. Heatwaves, droughts, and hurricanes have become more common and deadly. February 6th, 2023 A devastating 7.8-magnitude earthquake struck southern Turkey and northern Syria, causing widespread destruction and killing more than 50,000 people.
These events are nowhere near even half of what has happened since 2020. My website will be based on a majority of real facts but with a certain amount of extra scientific dramatism to add to the idea of us somehow switching into a parallel universe. There will be plenty of “basement dwelling science enthusiast” themes to the way the site looks and the way the information will be presented.
